Philips Screeneo U5 Ultra-Short Throw 4K Projector

In June, Philips launched Indiegogo to fund a Full HD ultra-short throw projector called the Screeneo U4. It raised over EUR6million and attracted more than 9,000 backers. The company now plans to replicate that success with its Screeneo U5 4K UST laser projector.

DLP Cinema’s projection unit is equipped with a 25,000-hour laser source. It can produce 4K UHD visuals (3,840×2,160) at a game-friendly 60Hz refresh rate. The U5 is capable of throwing 120-inch images at a throw ratio 0.21:1. Images are projected from 11 inches from the surface. However, the U5 can throw up 150 inches if pulled back another 5.5 inches.

You can also enjoy 3D content via a cabled-up Bluray player or plugged in USB drive. However, you will need your own glasses. You can also connect via dual-band Wi Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, Bluetooth 2.1 (one equipped with eARC), Ethernet LAN and analog/digital audio.

The system also features a Dolby Atmos 2.2 channel sound system with a total output of 20 Watts. It has DSP audio optimization and DTS HD support.

Pre-order perks on Indiegogo start at EUR1,699 (around US$1,710). This represents a 48% discount from the retail price. Taxes and shipping are not included. Shipping is expected to begin in March 2023 if everything goes according to plan, assuming all goes well with the campaign already funded.
