Sysco’s fleet members will be able to work at the Riverside, California location before additional eCascadia trucks arrive in 2023. “Today marks a significant milestone in our climate campaign as we work towards electrifying 35% or more of our US fleet by 2030,” Neil Russell (Sysco’s senior vice-president of corporate affairs, chief communications officer) stated earlier in November.
TheeCascadia was our recent driver. It has been in pre-series production since 2018, with prototypes being tested. The production version was revealed in May this year, after 1.5 million miles had been accumulated in customer fleets. Daimler’s eCascadia trucks have been used by real companies.
Depending on the battery configuration, the eCascadia can travel 155, 220 or 230 miles depending on which battery is used. This makes it ideal for daily short haul routes as well as depot-based recharging. The Class 8 truck is attractive for drayage operations as well as regional distribution routes. The eCascadia trailer and truck have a combined gross weight of 82,000 pounds in tandem drive layouts and a GCW 65,000 in single drive layouts.

“This zero-emission tractor is powerful, quiet and–importantly–very comfortable to drive. It’s good for the environment and will also improve the driving experience of thousands of our delivery partners,” Marie Robinson, Sysco’s EVP, chief supply chain officer, Daimler Truck North America.
Daimler Trucks claims that the eCascadia can charge up to 80% in as little as 90 minutes from its base.
Sysco intends to deploy 800 eCascadias by 2026 for its operations.
