Apple Invests $100 Billion In Japan, and CEO Cook Visits The Chip Epicentre
Apple Inc. said Tuesday that it has invested more than $100 million in Japan’s supply network in the past five years. This was as Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook visited Tokyo, the epicenter of the country’s semiconductor industry.
Cook tweeted Monday that he had visited Kumamoto Prefecture in southwestern Japan. This is home to many factories of semiconductor and other leading technology companies, including one currently under construction by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC).

Apple released a statement stating that it has increased its Japan supplier spending by more than 30% in the past year. Apple’s network includes nearly 1,000 companies from multi-nationals and family-owned businesses.
Sony Group Corp was named one of the largest suppliers to Japan for camera sensors for iPhone products. It also mentioned medium- and small businesses like Inoue Ribbon Industry Co, and Shincron Co, as partners.

Apple announced that 29 Japanese suppliers committed to using renewable energy to power Apple-related businesses by 2030. These include Sony, Murata Manufacturing and Keiwa.
